Manage Virtual Memory
Did you know you could speed up your computer’s performance and eliminate a lot of unnecessary hard drive access?
Windows 95 uses a temporary swap file that will increase and decrease in size each time you do something. You can solve this annoyance by specifying a fixed size for the swap file.
- Determine how much disk space to allot to the swap file by multiplying the amount of RAM installed on your computer by 2.5. For example 8MB x 2.5 = 20MB, 64MB x 2.5 = 160MB.
- Click Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Performance-Virtual Memory and select "Let Me Specify My Own Virtual Memory Settings". Fill in the appropriate information and let the system Restart.
- Be cautious of the amount of free hard drive space when changing to a fixed swap file size.
